Energy: Imprints Vs. Entities

I have seen quite a bit of confusion in this area, as well as some inappropriate approaches to dealing with entities and imprints, especially on paranormal TV shows and in some of the fad based groups on the internet. It is important to note that both of these are energy forms, and that all is energy. Imprints are emotional or memory based remnants that have built up in particular areas either through intent, emotional attachment / experience, or memories. Entities are complete conscious beings; what we may refer to as ghosts, nature spirits, deity…

Imprints:

There are several different types of imprints, here I will list and describe them briefly from my perspective:

  • Memory Ghosts or Memory Imprints: These are usually manifested via the senses based on a repetitive action such as a maternal figure baking cookies in the kitchen, or a paternal figure fishing by a local pond or creek. The resultant of a particular person leaving the imprint by simply doing this task over and over in this particular area. *Note,* this person can be very much still with us in the physical world.
  • Emotional Ghosts or Emotional Imprints: These imprints are made by an emotional attachment or event that leaves the energies involved based purely in this feeling or set of feelings. An example would be an ancestral figure reading a story in a rocking chair, such as a Grandparent, and the emotional feeling of connection, security, or happiness. Another example would be the outpouring of love that was felt when a new child was brought into the world.
  • Intentional Imprints: The focus of and idea or feeling into an object or place to have some sort of effect, such as security, protection, happiness, fear…

Entities:

Like Imprints there are many different types of entities, most notable are ghosts, spirits, nature spirits, elementals, and deity. I will list these below also with brief descriptions:

  • Ghosts: Spirit bodies of those that were once physical beings, that are no longer with us.
  • Spirits: Very much like ghosts, but these can be spirit bodies of humans that are ethereal or astral projecting, ghosts themselves, or even beings that have never had a corporeal or physical form. Some examples would be sleeping peoples dream selves, spirits of the elements or elementals, and general spirits of animals.
  • Nature Spirits: Mother Nature, Father Time, Jack Frost, Fey or Faeries, Lady of the Lake, to name a few as examples.
  • Elementals: These are spirits made entirely of a specific element force, such as Earth, Air, Fire or Water.
  • Deity: Deity are Gods and Goddesses, complete representations of larger ideas with full personalities and motivations. Some think of Deity as the all, some assign different personalities to specific archetypes, this can be quite an exhaustive subject in itself.

Concerns:

Many people treat these things in a way I would call inappropriate, such as mistaking imprints for entities or underestimating the amount of honor and respect given when interacting with entities. I also want to emphasize the importance of grounding, cleansing and protection when interacting with either. Here are some links on those subjects that I have written previously:

Ok, so there are my quick two-cents on this subject. Does you have a different perspective or any concerns?  Please comment if you do, I look forward as always, to other points of view. Thanks for reading.

Basic Cleansing Exercise

In our Basic Grounding Exercise I said that it was a fundamental skill, and that it was a general practice of cleansing to remove excess thoughts, feelings, and energies. Our purpose today is to add a new layer, instead of just letting those loose ideas fall off, we are going to rinse it away. If you find a tough spot, feel free to scrub a little.

  • Drink water
  • Start a threefold breath; 3 seconds each; inhale, hold, exhale
  • Visualize or Imagine a cord attached to the base of your spine for males, ovaries for females (Root Chakra) and connecting to the core of the earth
  • Visualize a white or golden rain falling over you like a waterfall or shower
  • When you inhale, feel energy coming in at both your feet from the earth (land), and the top of your head from the sun and/or wind (sky)
  • As you hold the breath, feel the two different currents merge in your center (sea)
  • When you exhale, feel the shower wash you off and drain through your grounding cord as you ground normally, releasing your excess thoughts, feelings, and energies
  • Drink water

We have introduced a few new ideas today; layering (building similar intentions on top of each other), cleansing (cleaning away, on top of letting go of excess), merging of energies from the land and sky and allowing them to swirl together into a single current within your center as the sea.

Intermediate Grounding Exercise

Grounding is a very important fundamental skill for practitioners of any path. Building on my informational post titled Grounding I would like to share an Intermediate Exercise.  This Exercise will include a simple form of discursive meditation. The idea behind this form of meditation is to chew up your thoughts; basically recognize and organize them for future contemplation. In my Grounding article I introduced the idea of using the senses to reinforce this connection to the firm foundation of earth and the other elements. In Grounding we commonly imagine or visualize a cord coming from the Root Chakra or base of the spine, associated with the Element of Earth and pushing our excess energies, thoughts, and emotions down via the cord deep into the core of the Earth itself. What I would like to add today is a way to process that information (energies, thoughts, emotions) into a useful tool for self reflection and organization.

  • Drink a simple glass of water to hydrate and reinforce the idea flowing.
  • Get comfortable with good posture allowing your spine to be straight.
  • Breathe; in a threefold manner; three seconds inhale, three hold, three exhale.
  • Continuing with the power of Breath; Slowly pay attention to your thoughts and feelings, focus on what you notice with your five physical senses.
  • Let stray thoughts and feelings flow down your spine, the cord, and deep into the core of the Earth.
  • Continue this process for as long as you can, stopping when you can hold the focus for around 15 minutes.
  • Drink Water

Please feel free to provide feedback on your experiences, and ask any questions that you may have.

Grounding

Using the five physical senses when grounding is very effective, and the senses themselves are commonly associated with the elementals.  Below you find the correspondenses I use, there are of course different thoughts on the subject.

Sense => Element Table

Earth Touch
Fire Sight
Air Hearing
Water Taste/Smell

Keeping the previous table in mind; there are many ways to use different elements and the senses for grounding. For instance, blue and green are calming, balancing colors associated with earth and water respectively; red and yellow, fire and air. By adding a colored glass to your environment, you can effect water or even by enjoying a calming cup of tea, put on some relaxing music or natural sounds and you are pulling in the element of air. Burn lavender, jasmine, or other soothing incense to connect with fire, even using colored or white candles can be great ways of bringing fire elements into a grounding ritual. Get in a comfortable position on a nice soft upright chair, surround yourself with some of these suggestions, and grounding can be an almost effortless event.
